Why choose us

Why families choose a personal service

Most people know they need a will. The reason they haven't done it yet isn't cost — it's finding the time, feeling unsure where to start, and not wanting to sit in a solicitor's waiting room to discuss something so personal.

That's why I work differently. We start with a free phone call to talk through your situation, then I come to your home for the detailed work — including evenings and weekends if that's what suits you. Your schedule shouldn't be the reason your family isn't protected.

Every document I prepare is drafted from scratch for your specific circumstances. No templates, no generic online forms, no box-ticking. Just a proper conversation about what matters to you, followed by professionally drafted documents you can trust.

The Complete Peace of Mind Package — £1,195 per couple

Everything most families need, sorted in one process: mirror wills, both types of LPA for both partners, and letters of wishes. That's six professionally drafted documents, starting with a free phone call, followed by a thorough home visit, and complete peace of mind — for less than you'd pay a solicitor for the wills alone.

About Emma

Planning that fits around your life

Hello, I'm Emma, the founder of Kent Legacy Planning. With a law degree and over 20 years' experience in the legal sector, I set up this practice because I believe estate planning should fit around your life — not the other way around.

I know that talking about wills and end-of-life planning can feel uncomfortable. That's exactly why I come to you. There's something about being in your own home that makes these conversations easier, more relaxed, and more honest.

I'm available seven days a week, including evenings, because I've seen too many families put this off simply because they couldn't find a convenient appointment. Every family is different, and every document I prepare reflects that.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why should I use a professional will writer instead of doing it myself?

DIY will kits and online forms are the most common source of problems I see. Missing a detail, using the wrong wording, or getting the witnessing wrong can invalidate your entire will — and your family won't find out until it's too late to fix it. A professional service means your will is legally sound, properly witnessed, and actually does what you intended.

How long does the process take?

Most simple wills are completed within one to two weeks from our first conversation. More complex estates may take a little longer. I'll give you a clear timeline once I understand your situation.

What's the difference between the two types of LPA?

A Property and Financial Affairs LPA covers your money, banking, bills, and property. A Health and Welfare LPA covers medical treatment decisions and care arrangements. Most people benefit from having both, which is why I offer them as a discounted pair.

Do you charge extra for home visits?

No. I cover Kent and East Sussex and there's no additional fee for coming to you. Many clients — particularly older couples or those with mobility issues — find it much more comfortable to discuss these personal matters in their own home.

When should I review my will?

After any major life event — marriage, divorce, birth of children or grandchildren, buying property, or significant changes in your finances. As a general rule, reviewing every three to five years is sensible. If anything changes, get in touch and we'll make sure your documents still reflect your wishes.

What happens if I die without a will?

Your estate is distributed according to the rules of intestacy, which may not match your wishes at all. Unmarried partners receive nothing regardless of how long you've been together. Children may inherit earlier or in different proportions than you'd want. It's one of the most important things you can do for your family, and it doesn't take long to sort out.

What are the OPG fees for Lasting Powers of Attorney?

The Office of the Public Guardian charges £92 to register each LPA document. This is a government fee paid separately from my professional fees. If you're registering both types of LPA, that's £184 per person. You may qualify for a fee reduction or exemption if you receive certain means-tested benefits or your income is below £12,000.
